Breaking

June 3, 2010 | On the bench outside physics

Yesterday was a break. A break from the busy weeks of class. And they are continuing - the linguistics paper is expected to eat much of my time this weekend and early next week. And it will all end at 10:30 on Wednesday.

I hope it will be sunny that day. And Thursday, when we go to the circus. Not a downpour like this evening.

Traffic

June 3, 2010 Parking lot

Cars were bumper-to-bumper along the whole distance of Simonds Rd (2.6 miles). It was incredible. I have never seen this. Not even when we lost power in 2006 for 3 days. To make matters worse, there is a special right-turn rule at one end of the road (no turns on red from 4-7) and pretty much everyone has to turn right; so, there usually already is a tiny bit of a back-up but only near the light which is not this one. Also, the high school which is at this intersection had yearbook distribution, so seniors were leaving from there, too.

Takeover

June 3, 2010 | Houghton Center

Metropolitan Market grand-opened today. This is the only branch on the Eastside, and people flocked too it. Cars also flocked to it, and traffic was backed up. I was on the bus trying to get to UW. Meh. At least I made the connection.

Altar

June 2, 2010 Mini Buddhist Altar

My mom just added some fruits and changed the water in the little cups. The two pictures are of my paternal great-grandparents. My mom has a picture of her dad on the window sill with another incense holder, but I don't know if she uses it. Whenever my parents burn incense, I think of my grandparents' altar in Taiwan. Not sure why. I haven't been back in nearly a decade.
