Boletus

October 17, 2010

The first thing my mom did after coming home that I know of is knock on my door and show me a bag full of these. They're wild mushrooms, tasty and fun to pick, except I don't eat them since I'm paranoid like most people.

But that's a good harvest. Most of the mushroom will probably be bad and get thrown out, but after that, there should be more than enough.

These mushrooms are from the boletus family, most are boletus edulis specimens. The family is easy to distinguish, and you have to know the few poisonous ones (as a general rule, avoid bright red). But like I said, being pretty much first-gen, I don't eat them and am no expert.
