Fog

June 19, 2010 | Trail to Lake Serene

The plan today was to hike to Glacier Lake (about 11 miles round-trip), but we found out this morning that the trail was in very bad condition and settled for Lake Serene (about 9 miles round-trip with a waterfall detour). The lake sits right under Mount Index (a really tall mountain that's pretty well-known in the area). And there were supposed to be very good views from above.

The weather wasn't very good, though - it didn't rain, but it was cloudy. When we got high enough, we entered very thick fog that you see in this picture. No chance at views... we couldn't even see the mountain. What's more, we forgot our lunch pack (the backpack with all the lunch) at home, so we didn't eat at what could be seen of the lake. We only had marmalades and three bananas for the four of us - we didn't have four bananas.

And there was a spur trail to "lunch rock". Sad.

We returned just enough to have dinner - which was good, we got a bunch of stuff and I had the stomach to eat all of my portion; and drive me to CTF. We also stopped at the REI in Lynnwood and got me expensive clothes.

CTF was quite fun: some high school people from Seattle apparently heard about CTF and showed up. They were fun to play with, though. Before CTF, two of our players decided to compare Cantonese and Mandarin. The conversation went something like:

1: Well, start a conversation.
2: Ni hao.
1. Ngoh gei hou. (or whatever that is)
2. I didn't say "ni hao ma"!
1. It doesn't matter.
2. Yes it does!

And on the way home, I thought: I'll be learning Mandarin in two days! And then I thought: I want mandarines.
