Chinese is a lot of work. Traditional characters are complicated, and studying out of two textbooks doesn't seem to fit in. I'm still on Chapter 1 of Oh, China. I should have moved to chapter two today. I started reading it on the bus, but then I fell asleep.
Not much is happening. Silly phone conversations in the RC. Chinese is becoming more fun. One of our TAs, in particular: he showed us a stack of paper, said: "I was planning to do character practice, but we don't have time, so... forget it." Then he started asking us questions in Chinese, called on some guy in the back, pointed to a girl in the front, and asked: 他是你的朋友嗎? The student found the right response: 我不知道. Then he briefly mentioned that it's okay in Eastern culture to ask personal questions and asked me if I had a girlfriend. I was honest and said yes, but if he asks more-detailed questions, I might lie.
